I'm feeling smug, but I'm sure the Universe will wipe this look off my face soon
I've been putting it off for months, this potty training thing. At some point I decided I'd wait til Owen was 3, just so I could stop feeling like I wasn't slacking.
And then all of a sudden, he was 3.
I spent a week telling him what was coming, talking up all the awesomeness that was to come (read: M&M's). He spent a week telling me that he didn't want to sit on the potty, and he didn't care about my awesomeness.
And then last Monday, the battle began.
Except, he only fussed the first time we put him on the potty the first day. After that, he had no problem trying if we asked. And unlike Katie, if there's anything in him, he lets it out when he sits down. For the first few days, I asked him frequently if he had to go, and made him try almost as often. The only fight we had was when I tried to put him in a pull-up for naps: He insisted on his "manties." We compromised by putting the underwear on on top of the pull-up (which, amazingly, he has yet to wet during naps. He's had a couple come up wet in the morning, but I never imagined he'd make it through the nights, anyway.)
He had an accident or two a day for the first three days. Often, he seemed more upset about his went underwear than I was. I'll admit, I was extremely pessimistic when the first accident on the first day was upstairs on carpet, in a room previously unfouled by urine.
He's been clean and dry since Thursday.
For 5 days, he's put all his excretions where they belong. He has stopped mid-activity to let us know he needs to go. He rarely makes us run to the bathroom for no reason, partly due to his being able to squeeze a little something out for an M&M no matter how recently he's been on the pot. And he saves an M&M for me every time he goes.
Am I an amazing mom? A potty training guru? Was it my patience, waiting so long before we started training (HA!)? Is Owen a genius?
Don't know. Don't care. I'm just enjoying my good fortune!
