Teeny Tiny Swap 2 - Sent!
I *finally* got our postcards sent for the swap. I couldn't find anything in this town interesting enough to photograph, so I started looking around at image.google.com. I found a presentation by the City fo Richardson with a nice collage of local pics, so I stole it (I gave credit! And it's free advertising, right?) I just couldn't find anything more creative and exciting, especially with the cold weather we've been having. Also, where do you buy postcards, aside from the airport?
The flickr pool for the swap is here.

My first attempt at editing aside from cropping and resizing. It was fun!

She did it!
I'm working on a post about all the things we love about our house and the neighborhood and surrounding area. The realtor suggested we write that stuff down, in case it takes a while before we buy our next house. For once, I agree with her.
Right now, though, I have better news. Jamie took the Tae Kwon Do test, and made yellow belt! She did such a fantastic job, was focused and attentive, answered all the questions promptly and correctly and didn't screw around. She's never behaved better in class, and performed well to boot. I can't remember the last time I was so proud of her.

A good day
My dad is in town again, which is the only reason I was brave enough to suggest we go skating. Having an extra adult around makes so many things easier, and gave Rex and I the opportunity to make a couple rounds on our own.
I think we're going to regret it tomorrow.
By the time we left, all three adults were worn out. Ankles weak, backs sore, thighs burning. Part of that can be blamed on hunching over, helping the girls to skate, Katie especially since she's about three inches taller than a Chihuahua. The rest, well, let's just say that we're all a little less in shape than we could be.
It was fun, though. When someone else was helping Katie, I could see the big smile on her face. And while Jamie wasn't too thrilled with me when I tried to encourage her to do more than stand up and hang on, I saw some big smiles on her face, too. Better yet, there weren't any real tantrums.

Procrastinating AND uneducated
I haven't done the upgrade yet. I can't find any documention for the right version that contains any helpful information. I haven't googled for it yet to see if there's anything out there that might be helpful, and I haven't remembered/found what I did for the original install.
It will have to wait.
This afternoon, I'm going to Houston (by myself!) to spend one last night in my beautiful, beautiful house and go out with the soulmate neighbor. Tomorrow, I need to pick up a birthday gift for soulmate's daughter, then go to my SIL's baby shower. Immediately following, I'm going to kick back and relax at the birthday party, and then I head home, where my dad may or may not be waiting for me, depending on how late I get back.
I'm excited. This is the first time in a while that I've had something to anticipate, something that's not about me, but also isn't about my kids. And totally benefits me. I can't wait to kick back with the soulmate and a glass of wine tonight. I can't wait to talk, about my life and hers, neighborhood gossip and tv shows, and maybe, just maybe, our kids.
It's been a while since I've been excited.

I'll be crossing everything
It took me about a dozen tries, but I finally managed to download the right version of MT. Next up, the installation. I'm not sure if there are two versions of the software, new install and upgrade, so I'm concerned about all my old posts. I've backed up the actual posts, but not the pictures. All of the pictures I've posted are somewhere on my hard drive, but it would take for freaking ever to get them put back in the file structure on the server.
Let's hope I don't wipe myself off the face of the internet.

Endless loop
Windows asked me to upgrade to IE 7, and stupidly I agreed. Since then, I've had a little issue with the way the site renders. The logo graphic at the top is now mostly under the top blog entry.
This is the point where I figured I should get off my ass and upgrade my version of Movable Type. I haven't done an upgrade since I installed it, back in August of '05, so it's not like I'm not due. Lucky for me, a new version was just released a couple days ago. I click on the nifty link on my login screen, then click where it tells me to log in to Typekey to download. It took me a few tries to get logged in, and then I got passed to a page that asked if I wanted to log in and share my email address, or not. I chose yes and clicked to continue and it took me back to a screen that said click here to log in. I click the link, and I'm back to choosing to share my email address, or not.
So. I'm not sure where to go from here. My hope is that it really is an MT issue, and they fix it soon. For now, the world will just have to live without my rockin' logo.

Bathtime

I like this one because of the tongue...her sister does the same thing when she concentrates, and my dad told me that their great-grandpa did it too! I love that my kids are my future, and my connection to the past.

Selfish bitch
I sent my sick husband to Tae Kwon Do with the kids so I could have some alone time.
I know I should have been the compassionate wife and taken them myself, but I've been home alone sick with the kids for two weeks, and for a week of that they were sick too. TKD is my two hours of alone time a week, and dammit, I deserve it.
In an effort to stave off guilt, I keep reminding myself that I had them for way more than two hours while I was sick. And I got up with them this morning so Rex could squeak out every last minute of sleep he could before they had to get ready. And I slept on the couch last night because his usually opbnoxious snoring was even worse with the addition of copious amounts of phlegm.
Now, while I'm alone I think I'm going to take a shower, poach some chicken breasts for dinner and empty the dishwasher. You know, make good use of my alone time.

My new favorite drug
You might remember how I felt about it just four months ago. But after three months on a stronger pill, I went back on the Yaz. I probably would have gone back to it anyway, after the appointment I was supposed to have in December (cancelled by the move,) but running out of the stronger stuff with no medical cards in sight cemented the decision.
The first month went well, no unusual bleeding. The period was fantastic, three days total, light with an elegant bouquet. And it obediently went away when I started taking the little colored (can I say colored?) pills again. I'm in love.
On the other hand, I'm starting to develop a serious case of baby fever.

And I'm starving, but I can 't taste a thing
Yesterday, I spent $60 for doctors and prescriptions, and my kids just got sicker.
Last night, they were up over and over, puking, moaning, awake and feeling crappy.
Today, their old attitudes returned, the snot decreased, no one puked, and food was consumed. They are on the mend.
Judging by the size of the headache I had this afternoon, and my own snot load, I'm recovering more slowly, in spite of my weeks head start.
This hasn't been a bad week for the bad weather to hit here. It's been cold since Friday, I think, and the kids started getting sick about the same time. Saves me the trouble of either listening to them bitch about wanting to go to the park, or actually having to get geared up and go. All of my forays have been luckily made during non-slick times, so I didn't even have to risk our lives for the drugs. On the other hand, this super cold snap isn't endearing this place to me. I'm fully aware that it is cold in other places, but that other place will be less cold for fewer days.
I'm still grumpy, can you tell?

There are days when my three year old exhibits more maturity
We received a good offer on the house today. We counteroffered anyway. They accepted. We'rea actually making a decent amount of money on this house.
Except.
I don't want to sell it.
This means we can start looking at houses here, and get out of this apartment.
Except.
I don't want to buy a house here.

Now I feel bad
I was deleting a bunch of spam comments and I found 3 (THREE!) legitimate comments mixed in among the bad grammar and drug links. I'm sorry! I look through each comment when it comes into my email and approve the good ones as I see them, and then delete all the unapproved ones all at once when I get a pile of them. I have no idea how I missed you!

The delurking thing
Well, it's a little late in the week for a delurking post, but that's ok, because I'm not going to ask anyone to delurk. I'm mean, I'm not going to complain if you post a comment, but it would be hypocritical of me to beg, since I haven't posted one comment this week I wouldn't have posted otherwise. Which means I may have posted one comment this week, since I'm not much of a responder. By the time I get around to thinking of a comment and actually having the time to type it, it's already been said, multiple times.
Anyway, what I'm saying is this. Hi! It's nice to write for you, whether I know it or not!

Snot blows
Man, I feel like ass. This cold sucks, and after three? four? days, I'm not getting better yet.
I got a new lens for my camera today, one that apparently everyone and their mama has. I'm ok with that, since I love the way it looks. More on that when I feel less like the sole creator of snot in the universe.

The good, the bad and the ugly
My MIL's visit went way better than anticipated. I wasn't perfect, but I mostly kept the bitchy reined in. Also, she was much more interactive than the last time she stayed with us. Part of that is that Jamie won't let you stay disengaged anymore, but a big part is that my MIL seemed more willing to play. I think she just might not be a baby person, and I can understand, since I'm only a baby person with my own kids.
The house showed again this weekend, and apparently we're on someone's short list. I'm excited by the prospect of not paying a mortgage and rent at the same time (we've been double paying for almost a year and a half out of the last two and a half), but I don't want to sell it. I'm still holding out stupid hope that I'll get to go back.
In other news, my mom is travelling 2000 miles for a month long booty call. So. Proud.

Trying to break out of my rut
I'm signing Jamie up for Zhinka dinka doo's Teeny Tiny Swap #2.
This is something I would usually be too lazy, too shy or just too much of a fuddy duddy to do.
Lord, I'm using words like fuddy duddy.
Anyway, I love mail, Jamie loves mail, Katie loves mail, and maybe we can teach some geography while we're at it. The girls got a puzzle of the US for Christmas, and Jamie has mastered the puzzle and is slowly learning the names of the states.
Wanna join us?

No catchy title here!
I'm going to stop cleaning this apartment. It depresses me.
My MIL is coming tomorrow for a long weekend. I'm nervous, mostly because I'm not in the best frame of mind today, and adding another person (with unknown living habits) doesn't seem like the brightest idea. I'm fragile, people. Fragile looks a lot like bitchy.

By the dawn's early light
After a scant night's sleep, we spent the morning socializing with my soulmate and her family. More than the house, the yard, the neighborhood, the familiar town, I miss my friend. She's having a hard time right now, and I wish I were there to help. I'm having a hard time right now, and I wish I were there for her to help me. Of course, if I were there, I might not be in a bad place.
Also, we got to shower in a real, nice shower. With unscented water.
Priorities man. It's all about priorities.
